Packing Tips
The best packing tip is to call an expert from Comca Internacional, but if you decide to do it by yourself, take note of the following:
- All special packing must be labeled FRAGILE and have directional arrows so as to stow it properly.
- If the packing item is ceramic: Place it inside a box with fillers such as wood chip in the bottom and once the ceramic is inside, fill the sides and top with more wood chip in order to prevent any movement of pieces and then seal it with tape by pressing slightly.
- If the packing item is hand painted canvas: the canvas is wrapped so that the paint does not deteriorate, and it is placed inside a PVC tube and then capped. It can also be packaged in a cardboard tube. Once placed inside the tube, it must be secured with tape on the ends until it is completely sealed; this is done to avoid any damage if it is mishandled at the airport.
- If the packing item is glass: First wrap the whole glass in padding material to prevent breakage when it is handled. If you see a bare spot, where you can touch glass with your fingers or the wrapping is too thin, tape on another layer of padding to wherever it is needed. Then bubbles wrap it to keep it from being chipped.
- If you are shipping a computer: wrap the computer in bubble wrap and cover all the sides with filler such as durapax to prevent it from moving inside.
- If packed liquids are to be shipped: these are placed inside a box and filled the top side, bottom and sides with cushioning material. Then it is labeled FRAGILE and directional arrows are shown on the box so as to stow it properly.
- There are 3 types of packages if you are shipping documents: envelopes, bags and boxes. Choose the appropriate one depending on the weight and size of your document.
- If the package is damaged at the Inbound Station, it is sealed with tape and a note indicating that the package was opened by customs is attached. This document is placed at the operations counter.
